Bharat Dental Show Women’s League – Mangalore Chapter Hosts Academic Programme on Minimal Intervention Dentistry at Yenepoya Dental College
Mangaluru, September 3, 2026: The Bharat Dental Show Women’s League – Mangalore Chapter, in association with Yenepoya Dental College, hosted an academic programme on “The Grace of Preservation: Minimal Intervention, Maximum Impact” at the Dental Auditorium of Yenepoya Dental College, Mangaluru.
The programme brought together dental educators, clinicians, interns, and students for a scientific and interactive learning experience focused on evidence-based caries management, prevention, and minimally invasive dentistry.
The event received the support of Dr. Laxmikanth Chatra, Principal, Yenepoya Dental College, whose encouragement and institutional support were instrumental in bringing the initiative to the college and providing a platform for students and interns to engage with contemporary developments in clinical dentistry.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Nishi Jayasheelan, Core Committee, Bharat Dental Show Women’s League – Mangalore Chapter, as part of the chapter’s initiative to create opportunities for scientific learning, mentorship, and professional development for young dental professionals.
The inaugural session was attended by Dr. Rahul Pai, Dr. Mohammed Hasan Sarfaraz, Dr. Teena Sheethal Dsouza, Dr. Sham S. Bhat, Dr. Laxmikanth Chatra, Dr. Raksha Ballal, Dr. Nishi Jayasheelan, and Dr. H. Hari Kishore Bhat.
The speakers emphasized the changing philosophy of contemporary dentistry, with greater emphasis on early diagnosis, prevention, preservation of natural tooth structure, and evidence-based treatment planning.
The scientific sessions featured three key components. Dr. Teena Sheethal Dsouza delivered a lecture titled “Preserve or Remove: Evidence-Based Decision Making in Caries Removal,” focusing on contemporary approaches to dentinal caries management and selective preservation of healthy tooth structure.
Dr. Raksha Ballal followed with “The New Caries Playbook: Prevention Meets Minimal Intervention,” highlighting modern approaches to enamel caries management and the role of clinical assessment, prevention, and minimally invasive strategies in controlling caries progression.
The programme concluded with a hands-on workshop conducted by Dr. Rahul Pai, titled “See Right, Treat Right: ICDAS and Selective Caries Removal.” Participants received practical training in ICDAS-based caries assessment and selective caries removal, with an emphasis on translating evidence-based concepts into clinical decision-making.
The programme saw enthusiastic participation from interns and students from various institutions. The sessions provided young dental professionals with exposure to contemporary approaches that reflect the global movement towards preventive, minimally invasive, and preservation-oriented dentistry.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Nishi Jayasheelan, Core Committee – Mangalore Chapter, Bharat Dental Show Women’s League, highlighted the importance of creating accessible academic platforms for young dentists and interns. The programme, she noted, was envisioned as an opportunity to bridge current scientific evidence with practical clinical decision-making and encourage a more preservation-oriented approach to patient care.
